Top 10 Favorite Vocalists/Singers of all time?

Postby Jaredr24 » Mon Jun 15, 2015 8:25 pm

I'm surprised this hasn't been a thread (that I know of) so I'll be first to ask. Who would you say your favorite singers are? Like the type of guys (or girls) that can sing a phonebook and it would sound phenomenal because they sound so good. I want to see what kind of similarities we have. Can be any genres or styles.

My list:

1. Myles Kennedy - AB/Slash/etc.
2. Spencer Sotelo - Periphery
3. Elliot Coleman - Zelliack/other things
4. Jesse Leach - Killswitch Engage/Times of Grace
5. Ryan Key - Yellowcard
6. Howard Jones - Killswitch Engage/The Devil You Know
7. Jesse Cash - Erra/Ghost Atlas
8. Justin Holman - Revis
9. Doug Brown - SafetySuit
10. Sam Sky - I Am King/Nine Shrines
~{AB fan - Go Tops! #WKU}~

There's this thread for Male vocalists:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=325&p=8535&hilit=Top+10+Vocalists#p8535

I don't see one for Female Vocalists, though.

Any who: It's not in any order. Except the first three.

1. Myles Kennedy - AB/Slash/Mayfield Four/Citizen Swing
2. Mark Tremonti - Creed/AB/Tremonti
3. Lacey Sturm - Flyleaf/Solo
4. Corey Taylor - Slipknot/Stone Sour
5. Lzzy Hale - Halestorm
6. Amy Lee - Evanescence
7. Benjamin Burnley - Breaking Benjamin
8. Adam Gontier - Three Days Grace/ Saint Asonia
9. David Draiman - Disturbed/Device
10. M. Shadows - Avenged Sevenfold

I'm 100% sure there's one for female singers as well. Anyway, more or less in this order:

1. Myles Kennedy
2. Jeff Buckley
3. Matt Corby
4. Damien Rice
5. Thom Yorke - Radiohead
6. Axl Rose - Guns N' Roses
7. Rufus Wainwright
8. Matt Bellamy - Muse
9. Jared Leto - 30STM
10. Joe Lyons - Eaves

Funny to see how much my list has changed in three years. Of course I still like the singers I mentioned in the other thread.

Honorable mentions to Billy Joe Armstrong, MK, Austin Winkler, Mat Kearney, Layne Stayley, Robert Plant, Mac Powell, Gavin Rossdale, and so many others. Just the ones I could think of off the top of my head...

In no particular order, although #1 is obvious.

Myles
James Michael of Sixx: A.M.
Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust
Brent Smith of Shinedown (yes, I know there are rumors of him utilizing backing tracks and miming, but the acoustic part of Somewhere in the Stratosphere DVD is enough for me to put him on this list)
Chris Daughtry
Lzzy Hale
Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden
Geddy Lee of Rush
Michael Sweet of Stryper
Ian Thornley of Big Wreck

Fixed, totally bypassed my mind at first. I think his ODR vocals are the epitome of a diverse range and my fave of his to date. The howling on Open Your Eyes right before the solo always gives me chills

Chris Cornell - Soundgarden/Audioslave/solo/Temple of the Dog
Eddie Vedder - Pearl Jam/solo
Myles Kennedy
Jeff Buckley
Steven Tyler - Aerosmith
Layne Staley - Alice in Chains/Mad Season
Justin Hawkins - The Darkness, not the most serious voice, but what he does with his voice is damn impressive
John Wesley - Porcupine Tree/solo

There's only eight there, to be honest I was looking through my music catalogue and struggling to think of singers that I really enjoy to such a high level.

The first two are locks, the rest are interchangeable within their tier:

Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge/SMK&C/Mayfield Four)
Lacey Sturm (Flyleaf)

Mark Tremonti (Tremonti/Alter Bridge/Creed)
Scott Stapp (Up through Weathered, haven't like it since)
Amy Lee (Evanescence)
Steve Perry (Journey, probably my favorite classic rock singer)

Jon Foreman (Switchfoot)
John Cooper (Skillet)
Jen Ledger (Skillet)
Brad Arnold (3 Doors Down)

1. I always thought Amy Lee and the girl from Flyleaf had powerful voices.

2. I think Amy Lee is probably my top favorite singer of all time. Just something about the power in her voice I just really like. There are other singers I like too, Cornell, Florence Welch, the singer from Trapt, the singer from Linkin Park, etc, whatever, not going to name them all here.
