Your wording of "Gonna miss JB" makes it sound like he just recently died

I've said this many times, Jeff Buckley was the best musician of the '90s hands down. There's a reason why Bob Dylan revered his songwriting and Jimmy Page called him a 'wizard' on guitar. Another one of those guys that you can only ponder what would have happened if he'd been given more time.

I remember where I was, what time of day and who I was with the first time I heard the song 'Grace' and was absolutely blown away. The voice on that guy was out of this world and the guitar work was deceptive. It sounded like simple open tuning when instead it was complex and intricate chords and chords voicings which was a million miles away from anything his contemporaries were doing.

I don't think I could pick a favorite tune. Grace cover to cover is rock solid. My only wish would've been that 'Forget Her' be included on the original album (thus being on my vinyl, haha). Sketches is a bit tougher where it's incomplete but I was always a fan of 'Everybody Here Wants You', 'Nightmares By The Sea' and 'Vancouver'. Hats off to the cat on the old forums who suggested listening to 'Morning Theft' which has become my favorite tune on that album.

Words: He was a great musician that's certain, but for me, when I listen his songs and covers there is some sort of weird feeling I don't get with any-other musician. If you ask me the album Grace has a dark vibe into it, makes it very interesting and yet mysterious.
Favorite album is Grace.
If you ever get the chance to see Live at Sine-é, do it, amazing concert.
Nevertheless his covers are fantastic.

Love this cover. Sounds as if it's tagged onto the end of 'Hallelujah'

The first time I heard JB was quite recently with "Grace" - not knowing that it was him singing at the time.... & I thought to myself "he sounds a bit like Myles Kennedy......" Then I found out who he was and it all made sense...! :rolleyes

Note to self - must listen to more of his stuff. Loved "Grace".

Sometimes listening to him just makes me sad but I'm going to pull out one of those albums in a minute. He sang in so many different styles and types of songs yet they all were him and him alone.

Maybe I'll start with Witches' Rave and New Year's Prayer, two of my favorites. I have Grace, some extra tracks for that, Sketches, and So Real. So Real has some from Sin-E but I think I'm still missing a few.

Who am I kidding, I can't pick favorites. I hear new things in his songs every time I listen.
I do need to hear more of him live - well, what recordings there were.

Heartbreaking little documentary for new fans if they don't know the story. http://youtu.be/uckKE0l0_w8 By the way, the red phone Chris Cornell has been bringing on stage to all his Songbook shows was Jeff's :(

Actually, that reminds me - I think there were 2 movies in the works about him - maybe Reeve Carney was going to be in one? (Reeve actually looks and sounds a bit like him.)

Interview with him rather than others reacting to his death. I think there were additional documentaries in the works. Miss you Jeff.

Article on the 'Greetings From Tim Buckley' biopic. So far the reaction has seemed to be good. Guess we'll see.

Lover You Should Have Come Over. That studio recording on Grace is an all-around masterpiece.

And Live at Sin-e has some of the most compelling live performances I've ever heard from anyone ever.

Here's an article written by Chris Cornell for Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" (Buckley was 39):

Hearing Jeff's Live at Sin-é EP was one of those moments that happens only a few times in your life as a music fan — it was something otherworldly, and he shocked me with the depth of talent he displayed. I can't compare his voice to anything — he had such an unusual breadth of influences, from Sonic Youth to Edith Piaf. Jeff and I became friends, and when we performed together, I would watch him and try to figure out things — like, "How is it possible that he's holding that note that long?"

But you can talk all day about technical aspects, and you get nowhere. Jeff had the ability to sing a cappella in almost a whisper in a packed club environment and be able to hear a pin drop — that's not about technical ability, that's something else.

There was an almost punk-rock tenacity to the way he would force you to listen to the effeminate side of his voice. I saw shows with a room full of guys wearing flannel shirts, and he would bring a song down to him singing vocal runs a cappella. He would keep doing it to the point that it was beyond discomfort for these guys who were all standing there trying to be tough. You would be uncomfortable for so long that you would then have this rejuvenation and discovery that this guy was fearless. Listening to him sing — it's one of those indications that the human race isn't all bad and life is worth living and there is beauty and brilliance in humanity.

The past few months I have been listening to the songs Last Goodbye and Lover You Should've Come Over so much, it's almost like I'm obsessed with them. I can just never get tired of those two songs.

This song is really good too, I've been listening to continuously for too long.

It's such a shame he died, Grace is an incredible album. There's so much more music Jeff could have made. It almost seems unfair, especially when there's so many crap singers out there, making shit music.

Cover from a Belgian singer. It's incredible how much his voice sounds like Jeff.. It's also one of the few Buckley covers I actually enjoyed. :bow

I think it's the anniversary of Jeff's death today. I always wonder what music he would be making now if he was still alive. Grace is an incredible album. Listening to Lover You Should've Come Over is outstanding.

This is one of my favourites at the moment.

I saw a documentary about him the other day.. He was such a brilliant songwriter.

Grace is still one of my favourite albums. Here's my favourite non-Grace song:
