False. Folk is a part of country music. Appalachian music is often considered "folk" music so sorry it's not the hipster stuff you wanted to hear anddd for future reference everything you're unfamiliar with that i post will most likely be some sort of country
anyways you know you loved it
After all City & Colour and the Civil Wars are considered Alt. Country by some so I'm cool with it unless I start seeing Toby Keith, old glory and a bald eagle or hearing cheesy pedal steel.
And Timo, good choice. I'm still not a fan of Helplessness Blues at all (Except the title track).
I've given up on that album, bro. I wanted and tried to like it but it does nothing for me as opposed to say 'He Doesn't Know Why' or 'Mykonos' which I loved on my first listen.
Neko Case's new album coming soon. She's not quite folk but is hard to categorize and people who like folk might like her.

Bumping this thread. Keep forgetting about it. I have a few new adds but I can't be bothered right now. If it's first page I'll likely remember later on.

I streamed it on NPR when it was released. It didn't blow me away but it was nice. I'm not gonna pick it up but I'm not a huge fan either so I wasn't disappointed. I can't remember too much of the sound itself though.

It's been a while but I'm hungering for some good folk/folk rock music again. The fall has turned cold and we've already had one big storm and a few flurries up here in the north; for whatever reason, this makes me feel the need to listen to folk music. I think it's cause I've already been listening to a bunch of Fleet Foxes with the season change and White Winter Hymnal especially fits with the wintry mood.
Sidenote: Fleet Foxes have always been a disappointing band for me. I always felt like they had an amazing album in them that never quite made it out. There are some absolutely incredible songs spread throughout their albums that are intermixed with some songs that are just okay. Still good though.
I'm looking for something somewhat similar to Fleet Foxes then, acoustic focused, maybe some tastefully used grand folk stuff like piano, strings, timpani, etc. I like stuff that's fairly easy to sing along to, but not quite Mumford and Sons anthem level stuff. Any recommendations? And feel free to suggest anything else too, we need some more folk in this forum.
