Alter Bridge - Blackbird
Dream Theater - Lines In The Sand
Audioslave - Doesn't Remind Me
Metallica - The Unforgiven III
Avenged Sevenfold - M.I.A

Some of the ones that always come to mind for this question. Although there are so many great solos, some of which I may actually like more but just think of as part of a whole song - these ones all happen to have a very standout solo section though.

It doesn't matter who does it or the length, but as long as it's a good guitar solo in terms of tone, bends, phrasing and vibrato to my ears, they're all my "fave solo". Just like how Halestorm says in the song "Rock Show", "Getting high on the solo", that's basically all I do.

I edited my post to further explain my opinion/justification of a good solo. That solo, however, was ear-bleedingly bad.

1) "Blood Runs Cold" - Def Leppard
2) "Love In an Elevator" - Aerosmith
3) "Open Your Eyes" - Alter Bridge
4) "Lil' Devil" - The Cult
5) "With a Woman" - The Darkness

It's a pretty tough game actually. The guitar solo certainly isn't dead. It's not as common as it used to be, with a lot of "lazy" music in my opinion out there... but hey.

Reasoning...

1) Probably an odd choice in the eyes of some but I love the guitar tone in this solo. It *is* from the yucky commercial over-produced DL period, but the solo to this song oozes emotion and feel and I love it (even if it is a little over-produced, it's one of my fave DL songs). I think it takes my top spot because it always sticks in my head, and in my emotions too a little!!

2) The solo to this track in my opinion is intense, very technical, and one reason why Joe Perry is one of my favourite guitarists.

3) A soulful and incredibly technical display by Mark Tremonti that compliments the song so well - he would never have got away with it in Creed.

4) It's rough and ready. I like the way it starts by taking the original riff and playing it down a couple of steps and it shifts the song as a whole into a new dimension!

5) I love me a bit of The Darkness. Picking a favourite solo is pretty hard for me but it goes well with my favourite song by them, off their most recent album "Hot Cakes". Check it (for AC/DC feel, a solid bass part, a bit of falsetto voice and some mildly amusing lyricism.)

Damn I forgot about Open Your Eyes. That solo gave me chills every time I listen to it especially when I close my eyes during that part (quite contradictory to the song :lol)

Bury Your Dead - "Year One", played by our very own Mr. Tremonti.
Pink Floyd - "Mother"
Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"
Deep Purple - "Child in Time"
Stratovarius - "Stratosphere"

And many, many more. But these are the five that come to mind right now.

1) "Blood Runs Cold" - Def Leppard

Being a huge Lep fan, that is a nice solo, from a criminally underrated record. Slang is getting re-issued this month in a deluxe ediion, can't wait. Long live Steve Clarke.

Allman Brothers Band "Soulshine" as an honorable mention because there are multiple solos in the song.
