Yeah, they are. John told me back in March when I had the chance to interview him. VERY excited to hear how this album sounds, especially Jen's vocals. Hopefully they arent overproduced like they were with Benson

For the past year and a half, the Coopers have been writing songs — 53 so far — to be considered for their next album on Atlantic Records.
"We're shooting for March for release, but it will probably be closer to summertime," Cooper said. "We're trying some new things, but all in all it still sounds like Skillet. The songs are very aggressive, very in-your-face.
"There's a little bit of 'keep up the fight' in this record. Some of that comes from the fact that so many people are saying that rock music is dead, and they're discounting really great rock bands who are still selling tickets. Two weeks ago, we were in New Jersey with Godsmack, and there were 18,000 people there. It was a massive event. People will always love rock music. It makes you feel something other music doesn't."

I've heard 5 or so demos so far.. some of pretty pop sounding & a few are more upbeat/hard rock. The pop stuff surprised me but they're all catchy tunes.

Nothing too bad right? I loved the step up in heaviness from "Awake" to "Rise", really hope they continue to get heavier

Bad as in?... They're very catchy, a lot of keyboard programming with some poppish melodies. I haven't heard much of the heavier stuff yet but I'm sure they have a ton of that. I think they've written over 50 songs for the album so far.

So in this next album, do they feel more inspired here than during creating Rise?

Bad as in recent Shinedown/Nickelback. A.K.A. lousy bubble gum pop "rock"

I sure hope that's not the case for Skillet. I don't think I have it in me to bump another band out of my fave five (like I did with Shinedown), because they went with a watered-down pop rock sound when we know they can deliver so much more than just that.

I really don't think I can survive if AB goes in that direction (thankfully, they always give me the assurance they won't and assures quite the opposite.)

It's no where near as bad as Nickelback or Shinedown.

Honestly, I thought "Hero" was pretty bland compared to "Rebirthing" which was great. "Awake and Alive" was great.

Hmm...the new Nickelback and Shinedown are pretty poppy. I think the hate on them is a bit much, but I do agree that they could stand to innovate more. I'm a huge fan of the old Nickelback stuff so I'd like to see them go more out when they write a song or whatever.

"Monster" sounds similar to "Animal I have become" by Three Days Grace. I'm not saying they are the SAME song, I just feel like they have a similar tone. Same with the songs "Monster" and "Sick of It".

Check that, Rebirthing was awesome. My favorite one by them so far.
