The Official Post Rock Thread

Post by Jaredr24 »

So I've been a post rock addict for a few years now and I was wondering if anyone else likes this style of music...or even know what it is. For those that don't, it's usually instrumental music that has a few guitars, drums, bass, and maybe a few other instruments depending how experimental the band is.

Here's the wiki article if you want to read more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_rock

It's one of the most chill, powerful, and relaxing genres out there in my opinion and if I had to chose one genre to listen to the rest of my life it would definitely be post rock. Considering it's usually instrumental, you can experience/interpret the song however you want which makes it really personal. This is a great genre of music to listen to when driving, it's rainy outside, night music or combine all 3. So are there any post rockers out there? There's many different bands out there of many different flavors but here's some of my personal favorite songs/bands below. You can share your favorite songs/bands of this genre here and just talk about different songs and whatnot like you would do with the other band threads. Enjoy!

Explosions in the Sky. I have nothing else to add.

I'm also a big fan of Fang Island, though they're certainly a very different kind of post-rock; more like post-punk.

This Will Destroy You. I like em.

They try to say they're not post rock, but they are, in additional to being kind of snobs. But they make great music, haha.

Have you heard about Ampacity?I don't listen to post rock much but I stumbled upon them and realised that they are from Poland.

Thanks for all the links everyone, enjoying some and will go through more. I never knew the term post-rock, learned something. I like this kind of music at work, when I'm writing or concentrating hard on something.

Not sure if this counts, some songs have full vocals, some sparse, I think there may be a few instrumentals: I Will Never Be The Same (IWNBTS) https://www.facebook.com/iwnbts/app_178091127385 or https://soundcloud.com/i-will-never-be-the-same Standby and Tornadoes are two of my most-listened to albums.

A friend of mine from school showed me these guys not long ago. Seems like it fits here.

I listened to the album once. It seemed pretty good.

Mogwai: Discovered this band a few years back. Fell in love with the music. Its still made with organic guitars, drums, bass, keyboards and a few samples here and there, but its post rock for sure. Some of the stuff kinda reminds me of early Tremonti intros(Torn, say i, wrong way kinda feel here and there). Must listen to artist for sure. Check out their album "The Hawk Is Howling" to start with.
