Ian seems to have (vaguely) announced a new solo Thornley album on Facebook. Not sure what this means, but I'm interested. Hopefully it'll be stylistically different than both the old solo stuff and Big Wreck. The photo shows him holding an acoustic - maybe it's more along the lines of the TINY PICTURES demos? I'd love to hear some stuff in that downbeat, acoustic range from him.

SPILL IT, JAMES.

I've been listening to Big Wreck for years now, although I don't actually have the first two albums on my computer. I listen to the shitty quality versions on Youtube, but the song Under the Lighthouse is an absolute classic. I'm not sure if I'll ever get tired of that song, along with Glass Room from Albatross.

I think Ghosts is a great album, although I rarely have the desire to listen to it. I wouldn't call it a bland album, but I think it's certainly too long, it has some great songs but not all of them stand out.

I always encounter a few from Ghosts in rotation on the iPod... when they pop up it's refreshing! Haven't experienced the album start to finish in a while. Get the first 2 albums... they are worth it.

I've also captured audio versions of the Suhr showcase and they are wonderful!

I'm not sure how you could feel that way. This is madness. The album is flawless.

Yeah, seconded. Think Ghosts might be the album of their career thus far.

Also, seems like Ian has confirmed that the solo project (operating under the name Ian Fletcher Thornley), will not only NOT be a Thornley album, but appears to be an acoustic-focused album. Some of the licks he's been posting on Instagram are tasty.

I feel that way about Big Wreck in general. Every time I listen to them or see live footage I'm in awe, but I don't really feel like listening to them that often.

Wow.... obviously I don't agree. For me, repetition makes the heart grow fonder. Within the last year, I listen to a LOT of other stuff (usually a full album of each artist in a 6 month mix - to let stuff wash over me). The Aristocrats (Jazz/Rock/insane), Muse (good old Queen sized bombast), Remastered Zep (clean old school sexy magnificence), Sonny Landreth (exquisite regional slide guitar), the best old XTC and Elvis Costello (for top notch songwriting), Steve Wilson (for high concept), James Petralli/White Denim (for modern tight songwriting and even tighter playing), Alain Johannes (pure quirky genius), Mid 70's Yes (sheer breadth and composition)...... Throw in a bit of Army of Anyone, Queens of the Stoneage, Extreme, Eleven, Raconteurs.... and whatever crosses my Facebook feed. BW and Ghosts in particular fits PERFECTLY in this mix, and satisfies the need, meeting or surpassing elements of all.

I spent many years into heavier stuff, metal always was and always will be my favourite. But the last few years, I've grown tired of most releases in that area. I've been happily bouncing back and forth between Alter Bridge-Slash-Tremonti and Big Wreck. Each album has brought different facets I can enjoy. So I've drifted more towards hard rock as of late but of course, it has to be driven by melody. And that's where I'm at. A few years ago? I may never have given Ghosts more than a single listen. To be honest, I still can't get completely into the first two albums. But I can find NO FAULTS in Albatross or Ghosts. And live, they are amazing. Over the last 3 years, I've missed one local show of theirs (not counting one I had to leave half way through due to my sick wife). i just can't get enough. And with both Ian and Myles set to release solo records that are more acoustic/singer-songwriter approach, I'll get just enough variety to carry me until the regular bands come back full swing in the next year or two. For me, this is perfect. I have a nice consistent circle of releases that I can completely count on to exceed all expectations and keep me happy.

I listen to at least 300 new records every year - I don't suffer from chills deficiency.
Ghosts stand out but I don't get overexcited when I hear it. Albatross gives me chills every time.

Btw they can play only Ghosts in Berlin, I'll go anwyway :D
