I had a lot of respect for William Duvall before, but my respect for him has sky rocketed. He's filled massive shoes, but he's so confident live, loads of energy. To say he nailed it vocally is an understatement. He sings the lyrics with such conviction that it's almost as if he wrote them and experienced what the guys all experienced back in the day. He added a few guitar licks in Got Me Wrong, and I didn't realise he played the solo in Phantom Limb! It's a shame really, a lot of people say Layne Staley is one of their favourite singers, for completely right reasons, but William does what Layne did and more (with no disrespect to Layne), yet he doesn't get no where near as much recognition.

Awesome man... Did they play Rotten Apple? If theres one band I want to see live before curtains fall, its AIC. Damn they don't show up in India. If any of you ever come across these guys, please oh please tell em they have fans waiting to listen to em live down here.
At least you guys get some good bands touring there. Pakistan gets nothing! :(

Man, honestly, its been a while since we got anything decent. The last big gig was Metallica, and its kinda saturated with the numerous not so great metal bands showing up. We need bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Chains Tool etc to show up. By the way, Call used to be decent, what went wrong with Junaid? Man they had some cool tunes.
Yeah man. They all need to tour in the sub-continent. :(

No idea what's up with Call. I only like one or two songs by them. I'm surprised you know about them.

How's the underground metal scene going over there?

Not hijacking the thread, but...

yeah, Call's good imo. Some awesome lyrics and decent baritone voice.

The underground metal scene is quite sad man. I mean, most of it is some wannabe shit. Its noise more than anything, no solid individuality or creativity, bunch of growlers and posers. But hey, some great rock n roll happening, check this Kashmiri band called Parvaaz out, some amazing stuff.

This song has got an epic and long drum solo. Some psych shit.

I loved BGWTB. I'm just now listening to Dinosaurs. Taking notes below as I listen for the first time.

Highlites:

Stone: just an awesome song. Love everything about it.

Voices: Great song. It reminded me of something from Jar of Flies or something. May find it's way onto my Ipod.

Breath On A Window: I really enjoyed this one from start to finish.

Choke : Another great softer song. Loved it.

other bits: the harmonious solo in Low Ceiling... The talk box solo in Lab Monkey sounded like vintage AiC... Scalpel was pretty... Great riff and solo for Phantom Limb...

The bad... after two albums, I'm really sick of the layered vocals. It's boring. I was ready to turn it off after Hollow and Pretty Done. But it picked up. They really need wo let DuVall belt it out on one of these. I also wish they would have put a couple of faster tunes on the album. It kind of sloggs along. But other than that, I liked it.

7/10

Good to have another person's opinion on Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. It's biggest downfall is the production, it gives you a headache listening to it. Jerry needs to stop singing, Duvall can sing circles around him, and it's no coincidence that the songs he sings on are the best on the album. Once you see AIC live, you realise how much of a frontman Duvall actually it.

My least favourite songs on the album are Voices and Scalpel. Hung on a Hook and Choke are really good. You even got a bit of a Dirt vibe on this album, perhaps more so than with Black Gives Way to Blue.

I think William being too low in the vocals was the most common complaint I saw about the album, and I agree with it. By the way, I think William wrote the solo on Phantom Limb. He's like Myles, a double weapon :)

I like the diversity on the album, songs could have come from different eras of the band. I love how their music all goes together well live.

He played the solo when I saw them live, he nailed it too. He's got so much confidence and charisma on stage for a guy that constantly gets bashed from some of the 'fans'.

Yeah, would love to hear more of Duvall on the next record whenever there is one. He is great, the naysayers can go suck cock. Layne was amazing, sure, but Duvall is doing great, provided he gets to sing more.

Just a thought but after reading more about Layne's story and his slow painful demise, it gives his lyrics a true depth of misery. If you listen from the first album through to MTV unplugged, it really is the sound of a healthy young man dying. Frogs, in particular, is painful when you try and empathise. Screw any heavy handed "say no to drugs" films and public messages. The decline and death of this talented man is the best thing you could look at to see the dangers of heroin.

I remember a Rolling Stone interview with him in the late 1990s that made it clear where things were headed. Very sad.

I've been horrified to hear about the heroin resurgence in the US. Is it a generation gap and loss of memory of the tragedies two decades ago?

When is your show Agny? I've been looking at their recent setlists, and they've really been pulling out some rare stuff, playing songs like Right Turn, Choke, Confusion and A Little Bitter!

Two days, I'll try to remember to jot a setlist down but I probably won't take any video. Glad to hear I may hear "new" stuff from whatever era!

They were fantastic as usual. Really comes across how much they like each other and like playing together. Crowd sucked but I had a good time being one of the few dancing and singing and cheering.
i jotted down a few notes and I think the setlist.fm is correct:
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/alice-in- ... 35c35.html
Them Bones
Dam That River
Again
Check My Brain
Hollow
Last of My Kind
Choke
Man in the Box
Grind
Nutshell
It Ain't Like That
Stone
We Die Young
Rooster
Encore:
(snippet of Roadhouse Blues by the Doors)
No Excuses
Got Me Wrong
Would?

So that was a pretty even spread across their discography, and it all blends together really well despite the lineup changes and the diversity of their albums. I will definitely keep seeing them as long as they keep touring. Though I may need to have a filling reset from Mike's bass :lol
