Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
So while reading the news of Chris Cornell announcing that he is working on his solo album, on Ultimate-Guitar, one of the commenters posted this video of a music video of one of his solo song that he did with Timbaland. Oh dear, I don't know what to think of it.

I mean, it's not bad or anything. I just didn't expect the lead singer of Soundgarden to make songs like that or be in a video like that. Obviously, this looks to be more in the ballpark of Justin Timberlake and it's actually evident in the music video where everyone is dancing and Cornell is sitting on a chair. JT would be dancing along with them (and do a good job of it).

Re: Euphoria Morning though? Yessssssss.
Yeah there's a whole album of Timbaland produced (read: ruined) Chris Cornell songs called Scream. I don't recommend it.
Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
I'm a big fan of Chris Cornell, so I'm not offering an impartial opinion here, but I've got a hell of a lot of respect for Chris as a result of doing that album. He did what he wanted, how many rock artists with a status such as Chris' feel so free to follow whatever creative path they wanted? People say it was a cash grab, but how much money would he have realistically made from it? He's also played some of the Scream stuff live on this Songbook tours, so he obviously holds those songs in high regard.
I'm not saying I actually enjoyed listening to Scream, just that I respect Chris for doing it. It does make you wonder whether the Soundgarden reunion was an attempt to gain back some credibility though.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
Oh, boy, let's trot out the worst case scenario video and rehash this old thing. This is why I don't read the comments on most sites.
There are some brilliant songs buried in Scream, some things weren't produced the way he wanted them (even the wrong song names), but he owns that shit and doesn't hide from it, it was an experiment, and like BSC said while it's not my favorite I respect him for that. (And while you're reading comments out there, there are some people who prefer the Scream versions of the songs to the rock or acoustic versions, and others who discovered Chris because of Scream.) I also think he was going through some messy legal battles with his ex-wife = ex-manager thus his comments about finally getting back his guitars in that era. But I don't remembe the details of all that and don't care much.
It may not be my favorite stuff but Soundgarden has some perfectly raunchy juvenile songs too. And I'm not going to stop listening to Myles because of Mayfield Four's Sick and Wrong.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
I actually like a couple of tracks from that album a lot. And compared to many rock albums these days, he's not burying his vocals in noise.
Blues song, he sings it live acoustic a lot, with its proper title (As Hope and Promise Fade)

These would actually fit just fine along some of what gets played on modern hard rock stations:

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
Like I stated, I did not dislike that song at all. I just thought it was odd that he made a song like that. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and listening to that album now and go with the "maybe, it's not as bad as people are saying" mentality.
Really digging Time. Never Far Away is the most enjoyable song of the album, so far. All right, the album is good enough, thus far, my problem with it though is that it feels like the next song is starting in the last 15 seconds of the previous song. Which is fine for listening to albums in whole, but not really that great in listening to single songs on repeat.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
I've been meaning to post those videos, but I didn't know whether to put them in this thread, the Pearl Jam thread, or the Walking Papers thread! Jeff Angell played Lifeless Dead with them and Temple of the Dog (minus Eddie) reunited! It would have a great experience to be at that show.
Chris sounds so natural singing those songs. I'm convinced there's nothing he cannot sing. I wonder if he felt much pressure replacing Layne. Although I am surprised they chose Chris and not Mark Lanegan or William Duvall.

I don't have the link handy but Kim told an Australian interviewer that Soundgarden is going to release another album in 2016 yay.

Kyle Petty, Son of Richard played for the second time (I think) live, it's probably my favourite song from the B-sides album. They've played Birth Ritual recently too. According to reviews they've been a bit more enthusiastic and energetic on stage on this tour as compared to their last tour with Matt Chamberlain, the set lists are certainly more varied, which doesn't surprise me, given that Matt Cameron's writes them.

So many great setlists, photos, videos coming out of Australia. They look like they're having a great and creative time.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
So I heard word on a radio station that I listened to that Chris and Zac Brown Band is doing a song together for the next Zac Brown Band album. I heard a brief preview of it, it sounds pretty all right. Interesting combo, but I'm sure Cornell can adapt well with these guys. Zac Brown Band can rock it hard as well, despite being known as a country band.

Chris posted about that on his Facebook earlier, but it linked to a page with a short clip of the song without him in it. He has done guest vocals and collaborations on so many things I'm sure it will sound great.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
Well, I actually bought the track on iTunes. I like it. The bassline sounds a bit attitudish like Rage Against the Machine. There's some good instrumental bits that Zac Brown Band always delivers well on. Chris provided some vocals and trading lyrics with Zac Brown during a bridge section and Chris just absolutely nailed it during the last min. or so of the song.
I'm a happy listener. This really got me really enthusiastic for the Zac Brown Band album.

Re: Soundgarden and Chris Cornell
I thought about going to the one in LA and then I saw the price being around $55-$70. I thought it would be the price to see Soundgarden, but I would think acoustic solo shows would be cheaper like say $25-30.agny wrote:Tickets are on sale for Chris' acoustic tour.
