Re: The Hobbit/LOTR
SPOILERS
Just got back from the movie. My main "WTF this is dumb" moments in no particular order:
- We left the desolation of Smaug to the movie not entitled The Desolation of Smaug.
- Thorin's cousin like 100% CGI in all his shots. There may have been one shot when Thorin hugged him where you only see him from behind that might have been real.
- That scene where Legolas is jumping on the rocks falling from the tower as each one fell was SO STUPID.
- Oh yeah, if I turn this tower sideways, I get a bridge.
- Oh hey guys, a couple of Dwarves just joined the fight, let's stop losing the battle now.
- Scene with the Wraiths was cool but I was having a difficult time processing what I was seeing
- Here son, let me build a giant makeshift bow using your face. No, I promise the drawstring won't decapitate you, stop whining and lean a little to the left.
- Fuckin eagles droppin bears
- Stupid CGI moose lifts 4 orcs in the air on its antlers so Thranduil can decapitate them all with one swing? Mkay
- Giant white orc not only does not get dragged to the bottom of the river by his 100 lb steel arm, but also manages to jump up and through the ice out of the water in one smooth motion without so much as a boulder to push off of. You can't even do that at your public pool let alone though ice 5 inches thick.
- Every scene with Alfrid. He was the dumbest and most pointless character in the movie. Yeah, I get it, we're not supposed to like him, but even Wormtongue had a purpose ffs
- Kili died, so called that lol, but wtf is up with Tauriel? She's like 600 years old and she's all what is love, baby don't hurt me no more.

Yep, that pretty much sums up all of my bitchy feelings
Except everything Thranduil did was magic

SPOILERS
I honestly can't remember, but when the Orc breaks through the ice, isn't his ball and chain gone? I assumed he cut it off in the water so he could float, but maybe I missed something and that was just completely unrealistic lol.
Also, Legolas' scene jumping on the stones was completely outrageous. I'll agree it was a mistake to have that one in there.
Alfrid was pretty dumb, but his character was probably more or less just for comedy relief. I know his scenes got some audible laughs from the audience at the theater I was in.
Regarding Smaug, would you rather he had been killed at the end of the 2nd movie? Because that doesn't really end the 2nd movie with much suspense imo. It's kind of similar to how in LOTR, Boromir's death ends the first movie, but in the books that actually happens at the beginning of the Two Towers. Moving scenes around is usually done in trilogies like this to make the ending of a movie more dramatic. I can see what you're saying about it though, because it seems like Smaug's death is shoved into the last movie when that story could have been finished.

Re: The Hobbit/LOTR
Well the stone and chain weren't attached, so all he had to do was let go, but he still had a massive steel blade inserted into his arm that would drag him down. Instead we see him just floating against the ice for his sexy eyes moment with Thorin.
I know why they didn't in terms of having all the story lines culminate in the final movie but I think they should have left Smaug in the other movie considering how little screentime he had in this one.

Is it because of the way he's being mean to me, Greg?!gbruin wrote:Fish Tacos is rapidly becoming my favorite TABNer.
Re: The LOTR WTF rant was hilarious though.
Nah. I don't want anyone being mean to you, Shea. I'm assuming FT is an equal opportunity heckler.
