I saw it today. I liked it overall even though there isn't much character development at all. I think that was more of the purpose of the first 2 movies whereas this one was solely made to showcase the final battle. I thought Martin Freeman had some excellent moments in this film from a character standpoint. And come on guys, how has no one talked about how awesome Christopher Lee was at like 90 years old? Haha

It obviously doesn't have the overall magic that LOTR did, but you can't really expect it to. It was an enjoyable close to the world of Middle Earth on the big screen for me. The ending at the Shire left me feeling happy and sad at the same time.

Just saw the movie with my friend. I thought the movie was done well enough for my enjoyment personally. I give it 5/5. Probably my favorite of the three. But I am sad the series is over. Goodbye childhood.

how so? The Middle Earth universe was a major part of my childhood. Unless they make more movies it's pretty much goodbye. My childhood was a sad one.

Sorry, Shea. I didn't mean that badly. When you said "goodbye childhood, I was just thinking of the ideals of childhood: innocence, imagination, carefree wonder, and how the magic the LOTR series fits in with that. After I saw the movie on Thursday, I worked 37 hours in the next three days and got 10 hours of sleep in that time, so for me, seeing the movie was only a brief respite from the rest of responsibilities and burdens of life. So I tend to think of childhood as ideally being more pleasant than adulthood, but obviously not in all cases.
