Daughtry- Heavy is the Crown

"See them march like lambs to the slaughter
Torn soul, lined up at the alter
I'll rise, hell or high water
They'll remember me when I'm underground
Heavy is the crown"

This song is basically everything I've ever wanted from Daughtry. Love it

My friend and I have been sharing amazing live concert interactions with the audience. This is my favorite. I think it’s all about Angus but that’s just my opinion! I just love him!

This is simply one of the best songs I've heard in years.

Arjen Anthony Lucassen - Pink Beetles in a Purple Zeppelin

Well. I was hoping this song is a trippy song of sorts and thank goodness, it delivers.

Been on a huge blues kick this week!

SRV=GOD :beer

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is another big hero of mine, I really got into his first three albums in high school. His new stuff is damn cool too!

Joe Bonamassa is cool for more speedy technical blues-rock side of guitar sorcery!

And I discovered Chris Whitley through hearing Myles talk about him years ago. Living With The Law and Dirt Floor are two of my favorite albums of all time!

Well.. I have to share that I discovered Greek Violin playing while traveling today! It was so beautiful I could have sat and listened to the violinist all day. What I’m sharing is not actually him ...but close! It was a beautiful day exploring America!

I had so much fun! I’m listening to a band named “Departure” that I’ve seen live.

Saliva's Every Six Seconds album.

So I've gotten to that point when you reach a certain age where you relisten to a band that had hit singles and songs that you liked a lot as a teenager and you decided to listen to an album and realize, "Oh, this particular album is not great and it pretty much lives and dies by the singles." Saliva sadly falls under as that band for me. I don't know why I was thinking my reaction would be different given where that band is now.

At least, old Shinedown didn't fall under that for me. I can still enjoy Us and Them in full. In fact, I'm going to listen to that after listening to Saliva.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in studio sessions of the past where various albums were created. How much of the album is from the band and how much of it is from the producer acting as a quality control filter? In most cases, you can guess that a good producer identified the catchiest riffs and spent more time and attention on the songs that end up as hits or releases. If the band's writing is weak enough, I could see a producer even going so far as to silently massage a song or two toward being radio-playable by suggesting chord progressions and other things which probably ought to give them a writing credit (which they rarely if ever get). The other songs... the "album filler", probably tell you more about the skills of the actual band without the heavy hand of the producer involved. For bands where the hits are incredible and the rest is complete junk, you have to suspect that the producer is doing most of the heavy lifting.

For bands with better filler material, the producer is probably just identifying hits as opposed to having a major part in composing them. For this same reason, I figure you can usually hear a huge difference between many first and second albums. First albums are often coming from material a band managed to write on its own (often over years), perhaps with crowds helping to filter out the bad stuff by not responding to it. While second albums are written in a few weeks in the studio with a newly involved producer acting as the filter. Of course, there's a lot more to it.

What a great song. One of the catchiest prechorus/choruses in a long time.

Gregg...
I Love it! I recently visited the “Hard Rock” in Tampa. I was able to photograph lots of “Rock” pieces... Including a guitar played by Tom Petty! It was a a beautiful day! This is my favorite song by Tom Petty!

I also love “Refugee” such a deep message... Enough to wake a sleeper!
