Between the Buried and Me - Voice of Trespass
I never liked these guys at all until their latest double album. I even saw them supporting Periphery back in 2012 and hated them.
The albums are called Automata I & II. They're just amazing and it seems like a total 180 from their old style. So much great groove and the songwriting is so varied and cohesive.
Whoever produced this should produce AB as it's powerful and super clear.

I can't stop listening to the new Gojira track! It's like hearing technical, brutal Gojira again and I am so excited for the new record, Fortitude.
Born For One Thing is nastier than anything on Magma by a longshot, but still has some of that songwriting accessibility (Silvera, Only Pain) that made Magma blow up the charts. I'm psyched!

I'm also listening to this. It's got that great heavy as all hell but also strangely emotional quality about it that Gojira does at their best.UninvitedZero wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:13 am I can't stop listening to the new Gojira track! Re: What are you listening to right now?
I don't want to come across as an edgelord but I don't really get the appeal of Gojira. Their music doesn't sound any different from the rest of tech prog bands and yet people consider them 'the future of metal'. Obviously they are great players, they perform with a lot of attitude and the whole collective is extremely tight but their songs tend to be overdone and just tedious in the long run.
Re: What are you listening to right now?
I don't know what an edgelord is but I must be one too because I feel the same way about them, plus I just don't dig that vocal style.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
It's a bit hard to explain as I found them an acquired taste (it must have taken 3 or 4 times hearing them before I got interested) but they have a kind of meditative quality to their music. The appeal is more atmosphere and rhythmic interest than it is melody.
It also helps if you like screamed vocals, the vocalist Joe Duplantier has quite a unique and almost melodic way of screaming (almost). I also like what he sings about and I get the feeling they really mean their messages.
Their live show is absolutely shit hot too. Quite the spectacle.
