Sigh...., 19 days in January so far and I have heard no new albums yet. That's going to change now. Looking at the List of 2017 albums on Wikipedia, I might as well binge on any reputable act that I heard their name before and go from there.

Dropkick Murphys' 11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory album. The 1st album released in 2017 that I have listened to.

I heard promising things about these guys in these boards. They were opening for Breaking Benjamin a good amount, last year, as well. So let's see what they are about.

Dropkick Murphys - 4-15-13

It's a pretty touching song and I'm sure, since they are from Boston, this was probably the most emotionally tolling song for these guys to make.

As Lion's Selfish Age album, the 3rd album released in 2017 that I have listened to.

So these guys have been doing well in making a name for themselves. I guess it helps that their singer is Bruce Dickinson's son. It also helps that they did a lengthy tour with Shinedown/Five Finger Death Punch/Sixx: A.M. in the states in arenas. I heard a few tracks. They seem all right. Let's see how this goes.

About to check it out, what did you think of it?

My thought is that your mileage will vary based on how much you like the premise of Starset. If you like them very much, it should be a good listen. If you don't like that spacey, electronic vibe, (think the electronic vibes that Skillet's Unleashed album gave), then you will not like it. It was all right to me.

I will say this. Now I see why Breaking Benjamin picked them for their solo headlining shows.

Their first release was more of a traditional modern hard rock album with some electronic elements. They definitely went heavier on the electronics on this release, the whole album kind of has an ambient feel to it. I love the concept they went for with the album, some of the songs on the second half aren't too strong though. But it's an enjoyable album overall. I don't think it has any songs that top My Demons or Halo, but I'm a really big fan of Ricochet.

Watched this Russian guy demo a Dean Thoroughbred guitar on YouTube. He played this dark and beautiful piece on a clean setting. And I had to sit down tonight and attempt it. Got it down from just watching his fingers, but I have a ways to go to get it smooth sounding.
