Re: Thanks Dolo
Cheers mate, although I don't like it that much myself haha. I preferred City Burials.SHEAKENBAKEN wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:38 pm I saw Katatonia - Sky Void of Stars on Dolo's list and added it to mine/listened to it today. Album was a banger. Glad I discovered it through him![]()

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Kinda random but sometimes it just seems like critics give a lot of weight to bands that are innovators and first to a genre.
In my opinion, you can be a band that’s first to a genre but still have a lot of sucky songs. How many good songs do you have? That’s my question.
I’m saying that being able to write a lot of good songs counts for a lot. In my opinion. That’s way more important to me than being the first band to do a certain genre or something.
Band A is the first band to a genre. But I’m more interested in Band C which has a lot more great songs written.
That’s my opinion.
It’s understandable I guess but it just seems like people always compare music and bands to what came before.

Currently listening to BABYMETALs 2023 album "The Other One".
Bad Medicine
That’s Me … JK
I was looking for some happy music while grilling for the family that had to work today! Just the dogs …cats and me grilling and playing fetch… aided by music that is currently being played way too loud!
I don’t have good hearing on my left side… I have to turn it up all the way! Thank You Airbags…
Ode to AirBags
This amazing song can only be appreciated at Max Volume. This is also my favorite AlterBridge Video!

2023 - The Year of Insanely Good Female Fronted Groups...or Entirely Female!
Loving the new stuff from Within Temptation - Wireless, this one, etc. I've listened to so many different female fronted or entirely female groups this year - Beyond The Black, Delain, Xandria, Eleine, Rivals, Conquer Divide, Edge of Paradise, Plush, The Warning.SHEAKENBAKEN wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:41 pm New Within Temptation album officially announced today, I dig the title track!![]()

Any Given Sin - Early Shinedown?
This band has really impressed me. I went and bought their new album - War Within - on vinyl. They remind me of early Shinedown.

2023 is definitely a great year for women in metal & rock. All I'm missing from this year is a new Unleash The Archers album. But I have a feeling it might be coming out in 2024 since it has not been announced at this point which is unfortunate.Schulzy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 7:29 pmLoving the new stuff from Within Temptation - Wireless, this one, etc. I've listened to so many different female fronted or entirely female groups this year - Beyond The Black, Delain, Xandria, Eleine, Rivals, Conquer Divide, Edge of Paradise, Plush, The Warning.

Porcupine Tree's Closure/Continuation album.
I think what's going on with Creed may end up being similar to Porcupine Tree. The circumstances could be similar. One can only hope Creed comes up with an album with a similar message (like in PT's Closure/Continuation where this album could represent the end of them and they are ok with that or the continuing of them, they just don't know right now) and tour accordingly.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Albums I want to check out soon when I have the time.
- The Call Of The Void by Nita Strauss
- Error by The Warning
- Set The World On Fire by Black Veil Brides
- Leave A Whisper by Shinedown
- Whatever is Nonpoint's best album
I've heard one song from The Call Of The Void and two songs each from Error, Set The World On Fire, and Leave A Whisper. I've also heard two songs by Nonpoint which are both from their more recent albums.
Is there anybody here that has heard these albums and liked them?
EDIT: Listened to one more song from The Call Of The Void. You can guess which one. Yes, the one with Lzzy Hale (Through The Noise). I like this one better than Dead Inside (which I also just revisited).
Also listened to two more songs from Error (Disciple and Evolve). Liked them too. I just think The Warning is missing something that would make them blow past a bunch of my favorite bands in my ranking.
To wrap up my sudden kick for female fronted bands that are not named Halestorm, I listened to two songs each from Plush and Forever Still. I think Plush is amazing and I will definitely add their album to the list of albums I need to check out. Forever Still was less impressive, but I still like them. They have that modern rock sound without any unnecessary bells and whistles. The girl's voice sounds like Amy Lee from Evanescence. And apparently they're Danish, so maybe someone needs to tell Volbeat to take them out on tour sometime.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I just finished a 16 song binge of my original songs. Maybe it's weird that I like my music so much. But maybe it's not. I try to write music that I like, after all.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I remember Josh Homme saying that he listens to his own music all the time. I used to do it regularly. If you're not making the music you want to hear, then what are you even doing? If music is good, it's good.
EDIT: Here's the Josh Homme clip - He starts talking about it at 6:17:
