Re: What are you listening to right now?
Aimer's Sun Dance & Penny Rain albums. The 11th and 12th album released in 2019 that I have listened to.
So yeah, I've been listening to a lot of Aimer and yeah, her albums like Dawn and Daydream are pretty good. Her voice is not just good and distinctive, but I do think the instrumentals are really well crafted that ranges all kinds of different genres from heavy rock to solid JPop to sad orchestra arrangements and everything in between. That stated, of course, I'm going to listen to these two albums that she had released last month.
Edit: On another note, I'm looking at the credits of her last two albums on Wikipedia and it looks like there's a lot of credits to a lot of different people providing lyrics, music, and producers, similar to the album credits that one might see with pop stars here. If that's the case, how in the world is Aimer's so much more enjoyable than the western pop stars here? Japan's really ahead of the curve here.
Edit x2: Might as well give my thoughts on these two albums. I think these albums are pretty good, but I do like Sun Dance more and have no issues saying this is my favorite album of the year so far (not that there's any big competition, but yeah). Another cool thing is that these albums are so different from each other. I think Sun Dance leans more on the pop/rock spectrum and Penny Lane leans more on orchestral elements, strings, and has more a dramatic vibe in some of the songs, but these albums work well when it comes to Aimer's voice.

Trivium's Drowning in the Sound.
Apparently, this is an unreleased song from The Sin and the Sentence writing cycle. Good stuff as usual from them.

Queensrÿche - Portrait. Really beautiful dreamy sound on this one.

The new Diamond Head album, The Coffin Train dropped today. I think it's my favorite record since Fortress. Amazing riffs and vocals on this thing.

Sascha Paeth's Masters of Ceremony - The Time Has Come
Super killer riff. The singing might be a bit overdone, but cool first single from his new project

This dude is talented. Rapper, but it has some theatrics to it. Almost sounds like the song belongs in a movie soundtrack.

All right, a little late for this, but for you, Drew. I shall listen to it.One Drew Remains wrote:The new Diamond Head album, The Coffin Train dropped today. I think it's my favorite record since Fortress. Amazing riffs and vocals on this thing.
Diamond Head's The Coffin Train album. The 14th album released in 2019 that I have listened to.
The 13th album released in 2019 that I have listened to was Rob Thomas' Chip Tooth Smile as I was getting ready to see his show at the Greek Theater about a week from Tuesday. It's all right. Nothing really standing out to me in comparison to the stuff he did with the first three albums of Matchbox 20 or Cradlesong (I like that one the most from his solo albums).

Re: What are you listening to right now?
You know something, I actually like it a fair amount. I only heard of Diamond Head since they are the band that created Am I Evil in which Metallica has played a lot in their shows.
Nowadays, I don't care much about bands that have been around as long as Diamond Head (for various reasons that I'm not going to go into further details) has been with the exception of Rush and Iron Maiden. Part of that reason is usually their recent albums are just not up to snuff or care with a certain level of credibility. The Coffin Train is solid though. The vocals are tolerable enough for me, but the guitar work is magnificent. Aimer's Sun Dance album is still my favorite album of the year so far.
Anywho, now that I'm done listening to Rob Thomas stuff, I need to listen to the entire discographies of both Coheed & Cambria and Mastodon since I will be seeing them both co-headlining at the Greek Theater, three weeks from today. Only got the ticket for $18.00. Sure, it's probably a not so great seat, but seeing a show of two name value bands for $18.00, thanks to Groupon, is great value. I'll shall start with Coheed & Cambria with this one.
Coheed & Cambria's The Second Stage Turbine Blade album.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Yeah, the guitars are great. I think Rasmus' vocals are really good too. Especially some of the middle eastern sounding things he does with his voice in a few songs.

Just ran four miles to Judas Priest's British Steel (1980) album. Some of the most fun songs not only to run to, but play on guitar as well

Re: What are you listening to right now?
So I've been listening to Coheed and Cambria. Why haven't I listen to this band any sooner? This is some pretty catchy stuff and intricate at the same time. Hard to do both so well. Now I'm really pumped for them at the concert in LA in less than two weeks. Mastodon in the same bill is big plus as well and I haven't heard their stuff yet.

Listened to some of Naveed by Our Lady Peace tonight. That was a damn good debut album. Never fully appreciated it until now.
