Killer work, angy.

What's the biplane quote? I just did a search and it brought me back to 2012 and I don't think the post was there - old board post?

Yeah. Really really old board, like probably 2007ish. I won't do it any fair measure of justice because the wording and logic were so amazing, but the quote was in some thread were people were discussing something like the most important bands ever. Most people were talking Led Zeppelin and Sabbath and Gn'R and Metallica, and someone brought up the Beatles. Someone else quickly and arrogantly replied that the Beatles were really old and weren't any good compared to modern bands - to which evylsummer, one of the original ABB.net legends, countered how that comment was pretty short sighted, and likened it to someone looking at the Space Shuttle and disparaging the Wright Brothers because "all they made was a fucking biplane".

As I said, I can't do it justice, but simply reading that rant was a standout moment in my life. Apparently I bring it up here every two years or so.

Bahhh. It's such a pain trying to find flights to Orlando at a decent price out of SoCal. I only have $1,000 to spend on travel, stay, and food (not including concert tickets). What's my best approach to find a reliable flight at a good price?

Use a site like Priceline to compare prices and then go to the cheapest airline site and see if they have it at a lower price there. And don’t use Spirit Airlines.

I was going to say thanks for the tip when I get home. It’s a hassle typing on my phone.

Edit: On another note, here's something I really did not expect to see. Shaq in a moshpit. In a big EDM festival in Belgium. Can you imagine trying to push this guy or this guy coming after you?

Dang...$1000 is a tough budget to do that with. Flights and hotel are likely around $300 each.

For flights out of LAX, check JetBlue, AA, United. They were cheaper when I was looking. Don’t book on a weekend either. Prices typically go up. Check out the app, Hopper. That app will tell you a good time to purchase to save money, or if the particular deal you’re looking at is a good one.

Oh yeah, also try and book flight and hotel together if you use Expedia or a similar site. You’ll save for bundling.

What's people's stances are regarding Delta? It looks like next to Frontier and Spirit (which I presume are not good airlines to fly out of), this looks like the cheapest when it comes to the big brands I've heard of.

I'm checking Expedia and it looks like the bundle to get to Orlando via Ontario Airport and hotel stay at the EO inn (which looks to be a 15 minutes walk away from the Beacham) looks to be $261.00. I think that's a good price. It's not a round-trip fare though since I plan on flying from Orlando to Raleigh for the AB show two days after the listening party and then fly back to Ontario.

Also, do I want to rent a car? It seems like it's cheaper than if a Uber/Lyft/etc. takes me to the hotel room and back to the airport. I could just take a bus though. It's not like I'm really in any rush to get anywhere.

Edit: All right, after some searching over flight and hotel bundles (searching for hotels within a 20 minute walk to the venue), it looks like I have $730.00 allocated so far. That stated, this does not include travel from airport to hotel room. Good start. I imagine it may set me back like $50.00 per ride which means I may get $70.00 to spend on food for three days......

Edit x2: Ok. So I'm looking at the flight only bundles + hotel only bundles on Priceline and it comes out to $650.00. I'm looking at the bundle to the trip to Orlando and the bundle of the trip to Raleigh and flight home and it comes out to $617.00. Am I doing this right?

Last edit: Ok. I think I'm going to buy three things on Expedia. The flight from Santa Ana to Orlando/hotel stay bundle, the flight to Raleigh/hotel stay bundle, and the flight from Raleigh to Santa Ana. So far, it looks like it's going to set me back about $620.00. Good enough, but I'm going to hold off and buy it on a weekday like Ryan suggested to see if it goes below $600.00, then that's when I buy. Leave me with $400 on car travel and food. Good enough.

$620 isn’t too bad, not sure if you’ll get cheaper than that.

All right, done and done. So it looks like overall. The flight and stay to Orlando, the flight and stay to Raleigh, and the flight home costs me $598.00. Pretty darn sweet. Two flights will be with Delta. Last flight will be with American Airlines. I booked hotel rooms that's a 15-20 minutes walk away from the venues (did they confirm yet that it is going to be at the Beacham or Social?). I also don't think I need to worry about bag fees. I'm going to bring only one luggage bag and it's probably will weigh under the 10 kg and it's nothing but a few shirts, pants, phone charger, and some reading material. Leaves me with $400 for car travel and food for the 3.5 day trip on the east coast. Very exciting. Thank you very much guys for the insight. Buying on Expedia was very good for me.

Also, just for kicks, I took a look at flights to London around late September - early October to see how much it would have set me back had I gone to London for the Royal Albert Hall shows two years ago. Would have set me back around $1,300.00 (again, this is without car travel or food expenses). I should have done it. They are never do a show this special ever again.

Maybe, depending on finances in a few months, I may pull the trigger on flying to London to see the last show of the Europe tour in the O2 Arena even though by then I would have already seen Sevendust, Shinedown, and AB this year.

Thanks Greg. I appreciate the comment. Also, I used to love watching No Reservations and Anthony Bourdain's personality. Used to binge watch it on Mondays on the Travel Channel during my college years. What a dream job. To travel to places and locations and indulge in things no one really expected to experience in a certain location and make snarky remarks about things and themselves and eat unique delicacies. Suicide is such a b****.

No but for realz, if given moderator privileges, I'd only use them to block spam and nothing else (unless needed). The amount of spam that is going unchecked here is becoming ridiculous. I'm here every day, multiple times a day, just give me the keys so I can park your car.
