Rocky Mountain high, the hard way.

Post by gbruin »

The kids climbed their first 14,000 ft mtn (4,267 meters for the enlightened part of the world) last week and then started back to school the following day. There's some sort of deep symbolism in there, although I can't figure it out.

"Going to school beats Dad leaving you up on that mountain" maybe?

Ubik, I didn't know anyone had rented a DVD from a mail service since 2012. Thanks for enlightening me.

My wife makes the best homemade chili. Trying to convince her that it's ok to eat chilli in the summer time. She says chilli is a cold weather food. I told her we can eat it in front of the air conditioner.

Streaming sucks at providing classic and foreign language films! For folk that are pretentious about such things like me, tis a loss.

for a guy with a Butters avatar, you're pretty classy! Didn't know Amazon did that - I can see the dilemma now. Maybe check your library?

I'm basically like that Simpsons episode about the film festival, but with Butters instead of Barney.

Good idea on the library, though given how much they've been cut over the last few years I'm not sure they'll be able to do something like that, alas.

I kind of wish the Native Americans had won out.

Charlottesville. :no It's so fucking sad these people exist and that we're still fighting the same battles.

That kinda stuff confuses me. I really don't understand why people feel the need to have a bigger, louder rally than the Nazis. Just let them have their little parade and fade back into obscurity after. But folks get all riled up and show up with their own weapons and gear because they want "to make sure it's clear we don't tolerate ___" then of course things escalate and the conversation devolves into discussion on whether it's ok for Antifa to be radicals as long as they're going up against the Nazis instead of the topic at hand.

The way I see it, you've still got people who believe the Earth is flat. No matter how much time passes, no matter what the general consensus of the time is, no matter how much education or training or awareness campaigns you do, there will always be a % of any population with unsubstantiated and/or extremist viewpoints. We can try to minimize that number but to expect it to ever disappear is an unrealistic goal in my mind.

On a lighter note, something interesting happened when I was playing World of Warcraft.

So, I frequently dabble a lot selling stuff, at the auction house, making loads of gold, the in-game currency. I had an item up that I priced it at 2,000 gold each and the lowest price for that item was 450 gold. Someone bought my item at 2,000 gold and send a message to me, once he realized his mistake, that stated, "How do you sleep at night?" I almost wanted to respond with "On top of a huge pile of gold," but I ignored it instead. Might have been the better approach.

:lol Kev! This surprises me in a good way! :lol

On a darker note, I got Rising Storm stuck in my head, realized I didn't really know the lyrics and looked them up. Seems fitting given the circumstances in Charlotte & current events, no?

"They waste the time that has come today
Blame on, a chance that a fight is born
Some still believe there's a time to kill
Walk proud, you're a believer now"

I saw a blackbird sitting on a gravestone minutes after my uncle’s funeral.

I predicted my friend’s pregnancy this March.

Three days before Cornell’s death I wrote the Winnie the Pooh post here in which the Piglet says: “We don’t know where Chris is… Have we lost our last hero?”

I am left-handed and red-haired.
That has just started to scare me. I should go to the stake. Or start to play some lottery games instead! :lol

I saw a bunch of doves fly off in a field one time after a friend died. Kind of cool and inspiring.

Poor guy, he just wanted to take a picture of the first pitch of the day and this is what he gets. What a pitch though. I didn't think the way the guy threw it, it was possible that it landed where it did.
