Top 10 Best Male Singers of All Time
Top 10 Best Male Singers of All Time
Rampage did an interesting post about the Top 10 guitarists of all time, so I'm pretty much copying his idea, because I don't have many good ideas of my own.
But to the question...Who are yours? Again, best can mean your favorite, most technical, most entertaining, pretty much whatever you want. Just let us know what you think.
My favorites, obviously taking the genre into primary consideration:
1. Myles. duh
2. Bruce Dickinson - #2 for longevity and legendariness. Nothing about Maiden is not great.
3. Warrell Dane - prob a better singer than Bruce, but doesn't have the Maiden lifetime pedigree
4. Steve Perry - The Voice.
5. Geoff Tate - I'm not a huge fan of recent QR stuff, but his voice is still incredible, and the first 4 QR albums were phenomenal.
6. Sebastian Bach - Listen to Wasted Time. If only he weren't so nuts.
7. Chris Cornell - Should be higher, but I like the other bands above him better.
8. Ray Gillen - Black Sabbath and Badlands. RIP
9. John Bush - Scott Ian totally blew it.
10. Ties: Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, Tim Owens, Brent Smith, Scott Stapp (yeah, I said it), Matt Barlow, Arnel Pineda, Robert Plant, Dennis DeYoung, David Coverdale, Sammy Hagar. And that's probably enough.

Myles Kennedy
Jeff Buckley
Chris Cornell
Robert Plant
Axl Rose
Steven Tyler
Matt Bellamy
Freddie Mercury
Best male singers ever imo.. Can't think of any other singers that are as good as any as these right now, so it's a top 8. In no order

Freddie Mercury is (was) fantastic. I was just never a huge fan of Queen. Good call on him, T.

Re: Top 10 Best Male Singers of All Time
My favourite, just personal opinion, in no way claiming any of these guys are the "best" though:
1. Jeff Buckley
2. Corey Taylor
3. Chris Clancy
4. Myles Kennedy
5. Jared Leto
6. Peter Liddle
7. Johnny Rzeznik (yeah)
8. Neige
9. Dallas Green
10. Christian Alvestam
Kinda wanted to add Vincent Cavanagh but I dunno, was a toss up between him and Alvestam. Also considered putting Plant in here, but I'm just not a big Led Zep fan, so I decided against it. He is prolly better than a lot of these guys though. I purposely tried to restrict it to guys with good clean vocals rather than harsh vocals.

Now I look at it again I would maybe alter that order a bit, but I can't be bothered.

I was thinking about Jared Leto aswell.. He's an amazing singer, but I think he's not that good live lately. If we're talking about the best frontmen, Jared is all the way in the top 3

Yeah, he's kinda like Myles in that he really shines in acoustic performances

Re: Top 10 Best Male Singers of All Time
'Alibi' is an amazing track. 'From Yesterday' is another of my fav 30STM tunes.
Anywho...
My personal favorites:
Myles Kennedy
Jeff Buckley
Ian Thornley (Big Wreck/Thornley)
Jeff Martin (The Tea Party, solo)
Gregg Allman (The Allman Brothers Band, solo)
Glen Hansard (The Frames, The Swell Season, solo)
Bono (U2, obv.)
Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin, obv.)
Brett Scallions (Fuel)
Dallas Green (City & Colour)
If I did add some singers in heavier genres I'd have to mention Hetfield, Phil Anselmo, Corey Taylor and M. Shadows.

Picking a list would be hard to do, so I will just say that I think the best singer of all time is Elvis Presley.

I realized after the fact that I missed Richard Manuel and/or Levon Helm on my list. Add them and remove Brett Scallions.
