It somehow took me this long to finally listen to The Mayfield Four. I guess that I have to in order to prepare for seeing Myles solo this Friday.

Man I remember learning about The Mayfield Four and listening to those 2 albums for the first time. What a wonderful discovery you are in for.

Same! And man, I must have reeeeeaaally been entrenched in the mainstream rock of the day (Nickelback, Default, Fuel, etc) cause I remember thinking I sorta liked it, but it was a little "out there" for me, like too prog or something, even though today I listen and realize it's pretty straightforward. Amazing tunes though! I gotta give those albums a fresh listen soon.
When vowels were vowels
Oh god I remember hearing Myles voice on those albums and, combined with ODR, thinking that music had finally reached perfection and we didn't need anything more in the world.TenaciousBe wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 7:35 pmSame! Re: What are you listening to right now?
2 new Shinedown singles dropped tonight, with a full album on the way. I am LOVING both of them, though they're pretty different. 365 feels way too close to Def Leppard's Hysteria to be an accident, and that's one of my favorite songs of all the times.

Savatage have reformed
I've got my tickets for their London gig booked an all.

Do I detect a little Myles Kennedy in your voice???
I heard this song from Kissin' Dynamite after listening to the new single from EPICA. I love this man's voice. He's got a little Myles in him in certain places during the verses and I like his highs. I'm checking out their discography.
This is the new EPICA song.

My friends from my hometown just released their first single in almost two years.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Yeah I’m a bit mixed on that track, but one thing I do enjoy about the band is they seem to write about whatever they want. I don’t have issues with experimentation as long as a band doesn’t drift completely away from their core sound. Even though it’s my least favorite track, it doesn’t really bother me either if that makes sense.SHEAKENBAKEN wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 10:09 amGreat album. Although Crystal Roses is a track that I felt could have been left off the record. Not a fan of the autotune style.

I listened to the album completely twice today. I know Crystal Roses came out too early. It is really a strange song and Courtney's vocals are very robotic/artificial sounding. I bought the album on vinyl at Target this afternoon and took the first half for a spin when I got home from work. I love the LARGE LYRIC booklet. My biggest complaint about the album is the sheer brutality. Everything is amplified - drums, guitars, atmospheric effects, especially Josh's bass, and Courtney's vocals are so harsh at some points they are unintelligible. I feel like I've been bludgeoned. Hopefully the lyrics will help me connect more on repeat listens as I absolutely loved Eternal Blue.SHEAKENBAKEN wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 10:09 amGreat album. I like the song in terms of the guitar riffs and vocals. But man....it's CREEPY!

Out of curiosity did you listen with headphones? The bass was pretty crazy on the album through my headphones at flat EQ, but when listening through my larger speakers I didn’t really notice any issues.Schulzy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 07, 2025 8:47 pm I listened to the album completely twice today. Courtney’s voice is sometimes lower in the mix than expected. I kind of assumed part of that is just artistic choice given the album theme.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I typically listen to the same album in at least three, if not four different ways. 1. In the shower on a Bluetooth speaker. 2. On headphones and/or earbuds. 3. In my car. 4. On my high end stereo system.Andy92 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 11:09 am Out of curiosity did you listen with headphones? I also try different sources - various streaming apps, CD, and vinyl. I have Eternal Blue on CD and I loved that they issued a high fidelity download with that back when it came out. It definitely sounds cleaner overall without as much bass and Courtney's singing is much clearer to my ears. I'm on my eighth full listen of Tsunami Sea and I'm picking up more bits and pieces of lyrics but it's taking me much longer to absorb everything.
