Tremonti - The Bottom Lounge - Chicago 9/23/2012

Post by mitch103 »

Drove 5 hours from Ohio with 4 college roomates. Hungout downtown all afternoon and saw the sights before walking 3 miles to the venue (feet are sore as hell.) As we were waiting in line I heard some soundchecking going on. I immediately knew two things. First, I knew it was the tremonti band who were soundchecking (a few minutes later they did Decay), and second I knew that they were currently rehearsing a song we have yet to hear. My guess was that it was a b-side and later mark confirmed this at the meet & greet after the show. I was able to hear exactly what chords the chorus consisted of since they played it like 7 times in a row: x35, 555, 000, x47 (I have a pretty good ear for picking this stuff out). The tuning was the same as Decay (dropped d 3 steps down) which as I mentioned, they played next. I wasnt able to make out the words, but I recorded myself singing the vocal melody using "nah nah nah's" into an app on my phone so that I wouldnt forget. Just got done playing and singing it on my guitar just now and it sounds exactly like I remember.. VERY catchy guys, cant wait till we can hear this song!!! Possibly "All That I Got"?? Since they're rehearsing it, maybe they'll play it live soon!!

Ok, Man the Mighty kicked ass! The singer had a solid voice and guitar chops, the lead guitarist could shred BALLS! Picked up their cd after the show and am currently listening to it, great stuff!

I was about 3 or 4 rows back slightly to the left of center stage so I had pretty good sound and view. Tremonti came on stage to huge excitement from the crowd and he just looked so pumped up and full of energy! Got chills during the 2nd song All I Was. The setlist was the same as the other shows I believe, nothing new or special. The 4th song Giving Up was just nasty, as it brought out the lower tuned guitars for the first time of the night and you could feel it hit you. During the bridge of Decay he did a sweet breakdown where he took the mic off and got some crowd participation, climaxing in the full band going crazy for the bridge. After the encore he played the only two songs left which were both in the DADADD 3 step down tuning: New Way Out and Brains. He's a sweet frontman and I really enjoyed the concert. Now I need to hear the b-sides!

EDIT: Michael tweeted that it was in fact "All That I Got"

EDIT2: Michael was apparently wrong, this was the song "Gone"

Awesome review, thanks for posting. It's great to hear that the band are preparing a b-side. I would love to hear a cover as well - maybe some Metallica would suit Mark's voice nicely.

Mark did the same crowd participation thing during "Decay" in Lancaster as well. It's so cool to see him blossoming into a confident frontman.

No I just meant the username was funny. I have a feeling that baws means something very different in Scotland than it means in Sweden.

What does it mean in Scotland?

I assume he's just using it as "like a baws" = "like a boss".

You don't think it means balls, do you?
