What an awesome afternoon/night. Got to the venue just before 4 PM. Went into the meet and greet at 4:30. They sound checked Cry of Achilles, Waters Rising & ATP. Pretty awesome. One thing I (and the VIP hostess) noticed was there were WAAAAAY more than 100 VIP's in there. During thee sound check party I was 3 rows deep.

Got to meet the guys and tell them that I have literally ran hundreds of miles to their music, which got a Wow, cool, out of Myles. I also came up to Mark and said ABNation in tha house. He laughed and said right on. My wife personally thanked them for all of the time I spend on these boards, lol.

When we ran in for early entry, I got the rail right in front of Mark's wah pedal. So I was six feet away from all of the solos. I'll post some video and pics when I get home. The hotel's wifi sucks. The real surprises were Fortress (yes!!!) and Bleed It Dry. Myles was sounding really good. There were a couple of minor glitches too as one of Flips stands broke after the first song. While they were repairing it, Mark played some blues scales. Marks guitar also went out just as he was starting his intro part for Ghost. Myles compensated by playing his part and keeping us clapping until Ernie got Mark a new guitar. He messed up the lyrics to the second verse of Ghost and laughed at himself. I Threw the horns up at Mark several times and got the "rock face" from him. Overall, WAY better than 2011 in Poplar Bluff where they only played 9 songs in a venue with ok acoustics.

Almost forgot... at the end of the show I caught one of Marks pics. I'll post a pic of all of my AB loot when I get home on sunday.

Setlist:

ATP
Come To Life
Before Tomorrow Comes
Bleed It Dry
Cry of Achilles
Brand New Start
Ghost
Fortress
Isolation

Awesome review, Drew! So glad you had a great time at VIP! You run while listening to AB too!? That rocks!
SO cool you got a Mark pick! You likely weren't looking over, but Myles handed us one of his after Rise Today!

We got in line at about 4:15- 4:30, (right by the hot dog stand!) and, somehow, ended up on the rail right in front of Myles. (his side mic, not middle) We were right next to a really nice couple from Phoenix who are Army of 12 members and talked to several other really great people in line and in the audience. It was so many people's first AB show and I was like, "get ready to have your life changed!"

At first, I was kinda "meh." I think the "first AB concert magic" I experienced a few weeks ago wasn't there. The sound wasn't as good as the House of Blues in Dallas, and I felt like some of the tech problems may have killed the vibe at the beginning, but that could have just been me...and for some reason I did NOT understand why no one was in the balcony and the place wasn't sold out. But my husband pointed out that the Midland is huge, and the people on the floor probably equaled what was in some of the smaller, sold out venues.

But around the time Fortress kicked in, I got SO into it. I loved seeing Mark and Myles trade guitar parts during that song...and was stoked to see Myles jumping around and rocking out.

Metalingus might actually my fave song right now. They lyrics are totally hitting on some things I can identify with, and that was a huge highlight for me. Myles came over to our side after the bridge and gave pointed at us and gave us a fist to the chest thing. SO cool! I would like to think that--he probably didn't know which date--but that he remembered he'd seen us on this tour, since we did VIP in Dallas, and we were in the same spot at that show, just not in the very front. That's what I'm telling myself anyway! :)

Blackbird was epic, as usual. I was stoked to hear FTR for the encore, and Rise Today--singing along with everyone else--there aren't words for how amazing that experience was.
During the first verse, Myles was looking at me and I was singing, and I forgot or screwed up the words and looked away...when I looked back at him, he was still looking an me and smiled and nodded. I waved and he nodded again.

I didn't notice as much in Dallas since I wasn't in the front, but this show I noticed how much Brian and Mark also connect with the audience and smile and make eye contact. Mark seemed to really recognize my new buds from AZ, and gave them a lot of attention. That was fun to see! Flip gave them one of his sticks after the show!

AGAIN, I was struck by how humble and grateful the guys seem. To me, it looked like Myles was a little emotional when they took their bow at the very end.

Talking to and meeting people who GET it was so amazing! The lady from Phoenix that I met had actually went to Minneapolis, both Chicago dates, and last night. I told her that no one in my group of friends or at work understands my passion for music and this band, and she said "Well, you're with family tonight."

I'll end there, because I will never forget her saying that and the way I felt last night.

I want to read more about everyone else's experience!!

Carrie Anne, I walked past you like twice if you were by the hotdog stand. My wife made me run across the street to that market to get something to eat (we had an early lunch) and so we had sushi at the front of the VIP line. I laughed about it and told her it is something we'll never forget, lol.

I agree about the eye contact and recognition. Mark and Brian were acknowledging all of the people who were rocking out. And the venue is almost twice as big as those house of blues (normally) and I think the boys were pleased with the turnout. There had to be 2 to 3,000 easily.

If they hit St. Louis this fall, lmk if you all are going (someone said something about a fall tour on here somewhere). I'd love to take my son if they play The Pageant, and sit up in the balcony.

Me: blonde and loud and lots of tattoos. My husband: short, with dark hair, "Monster Truck" quality beard and also lots of tattoos.

I also shared the rail with a guy from KC who is a freelance photographer. He said he tried to get passes to shoot, but they were out. He said their publicist mentioned a fall tour as well! Which is weird because I figured Myles would be out with Slash in the fall. Anyway, that would be sweet if AB came around again! I have not seen a show at The Pageant yet but I have heard so many great things about it...I would absolutely be there!

Great video, by the way! I loved re-living that! Was that when he was trying really hard to touch someone's hand, but just couldn't reach?

I don't have much to add but I would like to say a thing about the Midland show.

It was my first Alter Bridge show so I was really excited. Also, you know how the hair stands up on the back of your neck during songs sometimes at concerts? Well, that happened with three of the songs they played: Blackbird, Ghosts, and Broken Wings. It was really hard not to choke up a bit when the band was playing Ghosts. I guess the lyrics just got to me at that moment.

All in all, I had a good time and really enjoyed the show.
