I'm not a big fan of Calm the Fire but that was an excellent performance, give credit where credit is due

He wasn't having trouble, it's just that the intro to Calm the Fire is so soft that he has to push his in-ear in further to hear the notes. Plus when you're singing in falsetto it's all about the vibrations in your head, so by pressing in on your ears and blocking out whatever percentage of sound that would block out it can help you feel the vibration in your head. I'm sure over the years he's able to feel what note he's singing just by where the vibrations are located, so that's most likely why he did that.

Although, in just watching the video, it looks like he was just pushing them in further cuz they were loose :P

I'm sure it's insanely tough to sing that intro in a live concert setting. You have to really, really be able to hear yourself. That's probably why he was pushing on his ear.

That performance was totally awesome, btw. I loved the song at first, then I kind of overlistened to it and grew tired of it, and this makes me love it all over again. I love the part in the intro where the guitar kicks in and he matches it with his note, then I love how at the end of the intro the chord resolves itself.
:yeahthat

Well holy shit that WR video is absolutely perfect! Myles nailed the intro (obviously he could hear Mark this time)

I really appreciate how Mark makes the effort to sing as much like the recordings as possible.. He did it with Tremonti stuff too and its just awesome

I love the way both Mark and Myles put an arm around Brian at the beginning of Metalingus. These guys are fans of each other, and that's awesome :)

Yes! And Myles not being in front of the drums has to be easier on him too, just as a singer much less having had tinnitus.

Is it just me or is Watch Over You a little bit slower? Not that I'm complaining, it's dreamy :lol

exactly, I saw Mark when he was doing his Solo thing and he was spot on with the record. Myles tends to cut a few notes out here and there but thats because his parts are so hard to sing. But Mark does that well

And I'm so thankful they finally do this. Always have to remember the performance of New Way To Live on the Live in Amsterdam DVD - such a wonderful song, but they absolutely ruined it by playing it way faster than it's supposed to be.

Playing at normal tempo gives Myles alot more time to sing properly, and not having Flip's cymbals in his ears for 2 hours a night is obviously benefiting his vocals too.. I'm glad, very glad

Yeah, we've been saying that for years and I'm so glad they finally decided to do it.
