Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

Pearl Jam and Soundgarden have two guitarists. Both bands do plenty of layering with guitar parts, particularly Soundgarden. Outside example but Snarky Puppy has a billion different instruments and extremely complex music, yet perhaps the best production (you can isolate every little thing recorded)...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

Yeah, Jaded Rescue...i'm right there with you. And right off the bat with Fortress (an album i love and i am largely fine with the production on) on COA, you can hear how the guitar riffs and drum cymbals sound kinda distant and muffled, plus all the vocal effects. You can see that direction startin...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

It would for sure be very interesting to have a list of all the significant musical parts/elements in songs throughout the yrs that stemmed directly from elvis's push I'll start with something outside of AB. Year of the Tiger. I think it's somewhere out there in the interviews or that video that do...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

Cause i've had convos with many musicians and/or music lover friends about this new ab stuff while listening to it...and across the board, they've all been like "what on earth??" It's having an effect. This is why the facepalm gif was created .... First this forum tells me i cant enjoy an...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

It's more that there's a subset of this fanbase that acts as if anything that deviates from or isn't returning to those sounds is the wrong way of doing things, or is automatically "terrible". I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I've seen a fair share of people here that definite...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

The bounciness of the song rhythmically is quite cool. Really can't think of one other song by them remotely close to this in style. Not one.

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

It is a little better on youtube. Still not my cup of tea at all. However, dude, i liked WYR a lot and i REALLY dig this. Thus my production qualms. But yeah this is a very interesting route for AB to take imo and one they can do very well.

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

Heck, even the new Big Wreck song kinda bothered me a bit with the chorus production. I wish the bombastic style mixing didn't bother me but it does. Anywho i love that a lot of my current favorite musicians seem to not be slowing down at all. I want em all to write til they're 95

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

I won't go that far. My part on that just goes as far as my issues with the production. I have no interest in name-calling or anything. It's just music at the end of the day. But dang, AB. Love you guys. And i just wish the production was anything but this style. I personally can't get with it at al...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

It’s like Im listening through your little comp speakers. I have 700 dollar planar magnetic headphones. I’m literally angry and upset. Yea the current ab production is the kind where the listening experience in a way only gets worse with better equipment. Cause it exposes all the bizarre mixing blu...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

As a general rule for me...if i can't jam something through an aux cable in my car without straining to distinguish one instrument from the next, that's a big no-no. Do producers not actually listen to their stuff with headphones before they release a finished product that goes from sounding distant...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

Having said that though...given driving rain is the same producer, i wonder if the ab guys really are pushing for this sound. Maybe, who knows. But hey it's possible to dig a song yet be frustrated with the production. Production is very important. There are plenty of albums out there that wouldn't ...

Re: AB VI Studio/Recording Thread

And i've recorded for myself (check out Josh Parker-Cascade on spotify...more songs coming...or poshisjarkermusic on insta if you so desire lol) and done session work for others three times so have seen a good bit of what happens behind the curtain. Which makes it even more perplexing to me. Dang it...
