Re: Cauterize Production

Aye. Despite the material, the Load & Re-Load albums sounded phenomenal from a production perspective. The Black Album is awesome but has somewhat dated because of the drum sound.

Re: Lyric Writing

I quite often give demo instrumental songs a name based on what feelings the song gives me and then work backward from there. Try and uncover what the underlying theme is purely from the music. I rarely write lyrics and then fit a song around it these days, it's almost always the other way round.

Re: New Slash/MK Album On The Way

I've heard what I think is pitch correction in AB songs before, one moment in Waters Rising comes to mind. I don't really hear it on this one though, certainly not the 0:40 part. It just sounds like a very "Myles" inflection to me, which can be quite angular sounding. I know pitch correcti...

Re: New Slash/MK Album On The Way

:headscratch You're trolling right? Effects yeah, plenty, too many. I don't think pitch correction is required with MK though. It's really not that hard to sing on pitch in the studio. If I can do it then anyone can.

Re: New Slash/MK Album On The Way

Eh. None of the Conspirators albums have been mind-blowing anyway. Slash's last great album was the R n' FR self-titled one.

Re: AB VI Speculation

I read a lot about TLH being too much of a sound wall to many users here. But I learned that the more you listen to each song, the more details and the more "musical finesse" you get out of the songs. Same with the RAH Addicted video. The more I listen to it, the better I can hear the orc...

Re: Music (Alter Bridge) Saved My Life

Hi Micky, please check in with us even just to vent. As awful as it is what happened with the prior girlfriend, thank goodness you found out how awful she is before you moved in and got even more tangled up with her life. The older I get, the more I realize the truth of taking things one day at a t...

Re: New Slash/MK Album On The Way

So I heard Dancing Rain on the classic rock radio station (which is probably mainly due to Slash's reputation, especially in LA) in SoCal today (not only that, but the DJ talking also gave a shout-out to the album release date and the upcoming show in LA). Like I said, it's not a bad unlistenable t...

Re: New Slash/MK Album On The Way

Pretty boring and average song. The pitch correction is off and sounds unnatural on certain parts. Can't wrap my head around the Standing reference. 4/10 for me. Where are you hearing pitch correction exactly? I figured they were recording to tape again like they have been. Its blatant at the 40 se...

Re: Mark's sound in live recordings

It's an issue with what Mark thinks sounds good on his amp. I think it's the biggest issue. He used to have an amazing ear for clean and distorted tones, and it just doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Exactly. I remember him speaking in interviews about how he doesn't like to use in-ears, but use...

Re: Lyric Writing

I turned my focus outward with lyric writing once my own turmoil was lessened. Putting myself in the position of others and/or imagining stories. I still keep it personal from the perspective of narration but there's so much inspiration from events outside myself. I could never write a love song or ...

Re: Mark's sound in live recordings

They won't sort it, because they genuinely think it's currently great (same thing for the Elvis production or the ear-piercing album listening parties). Mark keeps saying "it it ain't broken, don't fix it" during interviews, so I wouldn't have too much hope about an improvement of any sor...

Re: Mark's sound in live recordings

I don't think Mark's live tone is good at all. It's all low-end and high end, the mids don't seem to come through and you just get a boomy mess. It's alright with Tremonti in smaller venues because the volume counteracts this to a degree but in big halls with AB it just becomes a muddy dumpster fire...

Re: Performance Videos

This one is a couple years old, but one of my favorites -- doing a cover of John Corabi's song "If I Had a Dime" (from his Unplugged album a few years back) at an open mic in Minneapolis. *EDIT* You know, listening back to this, I actually played it much faster than I do nowadays. It's fu...

Re: Performance Videos

https://youtu.be/7_ip5yqG59E Nice!! I love the production on this. Too many videos are just a dude in front of a shitty webcam with his head cut off. Have you thought about putting vocals to it as well? Thanks dude! Starting to get back into making these now that I have a bit of actual production q...

Re: Performance Videos

My faltering attempts at WDTTW. I need to re-record for better quality but god I love this song. It still means so much to me to this day. It's one I've not had the vocal ability to attempt until recently.

Damn. He absolutely slayed that high note on WDTTW. It sounded good in the hall but I wondered how clean it would be on the recording.

Re: Music song structures

About the ‘no hooks’ thing, I do think it helps a song if there is a recurring melody of sorts. Doesn’t have to be a chorus, but can be a guitar melody or a cowbell for all that matters. To make the above more relevant, what is missing from BTBAM sometimes is that recurring melody that ties it all ...

Re: Music song structures

I'm a big believer of letting songs go wherever they are required to go. Some need the A/B/A/B/C/B structure and some require more extension. It's my one gripe with AB is that aaaallllways needs to be 3 choruses. What about Bohemian Rhapsody? 2112? Hessian Peel? A structure can be a useful tool but,...
