Re: New Albums - Favorite Albums Halfway Through The Year?

Good to see you too! It took me a while but then NPR posted a concert where they performed it for like 2 hours and I was entranced from beginning to end.

Re: New Albums - Favorite Albums Halfway Through The Year?

Hey guys, long time no see :) I was thinking about what my favorite albums were from this year and realized I didn't have anyone to share them with so I thought I'd pop back in here. 1. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly (Rap) [Possibly my favorite album ever now... Time will tell] 2. Algiers - Se...

Re: What grinds your gears?

After knowing you for the past few years, I think your music tastes have just changed over time compared to what this site generally brings in. I know the discussion here isn't all about music, but that's a big part of it at the end of the day. Doesn't mean you can't discuss things here, but it's n...

Re: What grinds your gears?

Huh. I swear this isn't directly related to what was just being said but as I wrote those posts after having not posted here in ages, I just realized I don't care. I don't really have any investment in this community anymore and I don't think anyone knows me at this point. It's weird to think I've b...

Re: What grinds your gears?

Attacker, antagonist, critiquer, judgement...pick whichever label you like, Kanye just needs to learn when to shut the fuck up. If the Grammys aren't "respecting the craft" then maybe we should reevaluate the legitimacy of the 21 wins and 57 nominations he's received. Maybe the judges wer...

Re: What grinds your gears?

I don't think Kanye was attacking Beck so much as the incredibly out of touch Grammy judges and Beck knew that. I'm sure they both respect each other quite a bit. Beck uses hip hop stuff all the time and Kanye pulls inspiration from everywhere. If anything, Kanye was only critiquing (attacking? come...

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread

Not a big fan of it at first either. I'm not a huge fan of spoken word when it's used like this. It feels artificial. And though I love concept albums, I don't like when they set themselves up (as this one seems to, though we'll see) as a thing that can only be listened to as a whole.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread

Has anyone read the faux blog they made for the album (http://handcannoterase.com/)? This has interested me in the album more than anything else.

Re: Video Game Bonanza!

The huge holiday sales are starting to come in. Humble Bundle is doing a really good one with changing discounts every day. Today, I'm already getting System Shock 2, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, and Dear Esther for about $20 total.

Re: For Folk's Sake - TABN Folk Music Thread

It's been a while but I'm hungering for some good folk/folk rock music again. The fall has turned cold and we've already had one big storm and a few flurries up here in the north; for whatever reason, this makes me feel the need to listen to folk music. I think it's cause I've already been listening...

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread

I like this concept. I like that he's taking a more reserved approach to building concept albums. A lot of concept albums (from other bands especially) have been sunk by taking on concepts that were too large. I like that this one is almost more of a theme or idea to explore. I'm a little wary of th...

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread

I'm intrigued. I'm glad to know The Raven was initially planned as a "vintage" 1972 type album. Personally, I found it pretty stale and derivative for that reason but it's good to know he didn't go into it planning some truly progressive/innovative thing. I'm happy to know they might be pu...

Re: ALTER BRIDGE BOX SET

That philosophy is part of the reason why Creed sold like 11 million records for Human Clay alone, and Fortress sold like 30,000. Yeah, a physical item isn't being taken, but the content is, and that affects sales. Granted this is speculation, but I think that's only a small part. The bigger parts,...
