Re: Pawns & Kings – post release reactions & user reviews

I’m not quite ready to do a full-fledged review for this yet. My initial gut reaction upon first listen was that this is the best-sounding AB album in terms of production and mixing. In terms of the song and album quality, it was initially ranked in 5th behind Blackbird, Fortress, AB3 and Walk the S...

Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)

Upon further listen, I definitely think Mark used a 7 string guitar for Fable of the Silent Son. The low notes sound like Ab. Which would be a 7 string guitar tuned down a half step and the lowest string in dropped tuning.

So that’s cool.

Also, the organ part in the right ear was a nice touch.

Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)

I need to listen a few more times to give a solid judgement on it, but my initial thoughts are as follows: 1. I feel about this the way I felt about Walk The Sky initially- and that bodes well because I would probably put WTS at around the 4 spot in terms of ranking their albums. It took a while, bu...

Isolation was the first song of theirs I heard.

Its Isolation.

Re: Walk The Sky Intricacies

I'm sure others have picked up on it, but it seems to me like One Life is sort of a sequel to Slip to the Void. Where Slip to the Void talks of losing one's faith in what they've believed for so long, One Life seems to be from the point of view of someone who has found faith again...maybe not in the...

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

It didn't click right away, but I've reaaaaaally grown to love Walking on the Sky. I know it's inspired by walking on a wire between buildings, but what do you guys take away as the metaphor for the song? The lyrics "you're losing balance where you can't let go" in the bridge really hit m...

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

I feel like Myles missed a great lyrical opportunity in the first line of The Bitter End. Instead of "I've walked every road and turned every corner", he should have said "turned every stone." :mkrules ;)

Re: Alter Bridge/Creed/Mark Tremonti Tuning Master List

Unsure if it has been mentioned, but I'm 99% sure that Dying Light is in the same weird tuning as This Side of Fate. I can hear a droning F# in the beginning (5th string). Could be wrong though

I'm 99% sure that Myles doesn't go home because he doesn't know where it is.

What else explains the inspiration behind the lyrics of the AB III bonus track "Home"?

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

Death Magnetic is so compressed that it hurts. Particularly evident in Hetfield's vocals.

The poppiness in some of these songs on Walk the Sky is still blowing me away. Clear Horizon, with its stop-start thing before the chorus, for example. Very catchy.

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

To my ears, it isn't as loud as TLH. However, I'm still in the honeymoon phase, so we will see how I feel after a few listens. TLH can be exhausting to listen all the way through. Particularly songs like This Side of Fate, which has a lot going on. I still love the hell out of that song, but I have ...

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

More well-rounded is definitely a good way of putting it. The only song I'm struggling with is Take the Crown, and it's only because of the chorus. It just sounds too busy vocally to my ears. Otherwise, this is a very complete record. I have a similar feeling to when I listened to Fortress for the f...

Re: Walk The Sky Reaction Thread

Listened all the way through this morning. Initial reaction is that it probably sits in 4th place as far as album rankings for me. I love and appreciate that they decided to go a different direction on this album. I hope they continue to do this kind of thing, but I also hope they try to spend more ...

PEOPLE, HE'S 50 YEARS OLD This. Y'all are too rough. Is it perfect? Fuck no. It's not supposed to be. If you want perfection, listen to the record. Live performances aren't supposed to be perfect. In terms of live performances, I could sit here and nitpick every single performance you present me. T...

Re: Alter Bridge - Live At The Royal Albert Hall

I watched the prereleased songs on the BluRay on 5.1 surround through a pretty old sound system, then compared to the vids uploaded through the official AB account. The difference is night and day. I think the mix on the BluRay is excellent, with the exception of Mark's guitar being too quiet. But I...

Addicted to Pain - Acoustic Version

Used an alternate tuning to the original for this. A variation of open D5 that I'm quite fond of. Db-Ab-Db-Ab-Ab-Db, low to high note.

Hope you enjoy. I'm pretty happy with how this came out, aside from some guitar flubs at the end.

The Great Beyond (Acoustic Demo) Tab

If anyone is interested, I wrote out and posted the tab to the version of The Great Beyond that appears on the Best Buy release of Year of the Tiger. Here's the linky link. https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/myles_kennedy/the_great_beyond_tabs_2383105 For the most part, it's accurate. I'm sure the...
